President's Letter

To Homeowners of Lake Spivey Community:

It has been my pleasure to serve you as President during this start up phase of our community organization project. We've been able to create a business model we think can be sustained as a major resource and voice for our community for the years ahead.

In the past 6 months we have created a non profit corporation, chartered new state legislation, received our first grant and grown our membership to 16 homeowners associations. We've set the wheels in motion on a number of fronts to create name recognition for the community of Lake Spivey.  In the process we've garnered attention and support at all levels of government across county lines.

With the new volunteers now coming on board we are able to plan and begin holding regular membership meetings. That starts with our first annual membership only meeting later this month.

While we've been busy, the world around us hasn't been idle.

  • Ground was being broken for the long awaited widening of State Hwy 138 - signaling a new era of development for what is the main northern gateway to our community.
  • The remaining land not already considered for development on 138 was being surveyed.
  • Southern Regional purchased 93 acres on 138 to build a medical campus bringing in new high paying professionals.
  • Henry County ruled to preserve residential zoning along Jodeco Rd.
  • Henry County announced their intent to make major improvements of the intersections at Walt Stevens & Speer Rd. and Blackhall at Jodeco to ease congestion and address safety issues.
  • A contract to purchase the Lake Spivey Golf Club is in play and promises to change the character of that neighborhood at the same time alter one our community's major life style assets.

It's for these reasons and those to come, that we have made one of our primary goals this year to influence both Clayton and Henry County government - with the cooperation of Stockbridge, to create a common architectural overlay standard for our district - commercial architecture, signage, landscape, etc. The success of this effort should show to all our intended motive - to preserve and reinvigorate this unique area.

We are about actively promoting the Community of Lake Spivey as one of the best alternatives for living in metro Atlanta. To do that we will need some serious financial support. We will also need additional volunteers assisting in committee activities and, we will need to add depth in our leadership core.

If your association hasn't joined, make sure they do so they can have a voice in the upcoming annual meeting.  It's for all the right reasons.

I ask you to support this organization by making a tax deductible contributing to the Founders Fund. It's where the money will come from to fund needed public relations and marketing.
We all have a stake in the outcome of this project so, I ask you to step up and serve as together we move this community forward toward a bright future.

Sincerely,

Jim Buckman
President
Lake Spivey Community, Inc.
